History

Medi-Cal Managed Care (MCMC) is a system to provide Medi-Cal beneficiaries quality care and helps them stay healthy. MCMC health plans help beneficiaries find doctors, pharmacies and health education programs within the managed care network.

Managed care plans offer:

  • Help to coordinate care
  • Referrals to specialists
  • Nurse advice lines
  • Customer services centers

In July 2005, Governor Schwarzenegger signed the Bill which included expansion of Medi-Cal managed care, including Fresno, Kings and Madera. Since then, the three counties have worked together to develop a Regional Two-Plan model. A Two-Plan model includes a Local Health Authority that is created by counties to administer a Medi-Cal managed care health plan, and a separate commercial plan.

During the spring of 2009, the Fresno, Kings and Madera Counties’ Board of Supervisors created a Health Authority to govern a regional Medi-Cal managed care health plan. A seventeen member Commission oversees the regional health plan.
